How do I sell my scrap car?

Selling your scrap car is done in 3 simple steps. Get a quote, arrange collection, get paid! We make the whole process of scrapping your car quick and easy.

Step 1: Get a scrap car price

To find out how much your scrap car is worth, simply enter your car registration and Eircode to get an instant price for your car. We’ll use your car registration to find out the type of car you have, together with your Eircode to find its location, so that we can offer you the best price for your scrap car.

We may also ask you a few questions about the condition of your car, so we can provide a price based on what you tell us. There’s no obligation and if you’re not quite ready, your quote will be valid for seven days, giving you time to think it over.

Step 2: Arrange scrap car collection

When you accept your quote, if you choose free scrap car collection, our local branch will get in touch to arrange to collect your car at a time that’s best for you. We collect scrap cars from anywhere in Ireland, your home, work, a garage!

With CarTakeBack, you’ll also be able to choose to drop your car off if you prefer. If you drop your car off, there’s no need to make an appointment, just arrive during your local CarTakeBack branch’s opening hours with your quote reference number to confirm the details.

Whichever you choose, you’ll need to have any relevant paperwork for the car, your keys and your ID.

Step 3: Get cash in your bank

All that’s left is to get paid for your car! You’ll usually be paid by cash, bank transfer or cheque.

Responsible scrap car recycling

If your car is ready to be recycled, it will be done so in line with the law at a licensed scrap car recycling centre. The Department of Transport in Shannon will be notified that your car has been recycled, and you’ll be given an official Certificate of Destruction. This is proof that your car has been scrapped and will free you from any responsibility for the car.
