Scrap car prices peak during August with the highest prices seen in 2025. The start of the summer saw June’s average price at €247, just 2% less than the previous month. August saw prices boosted by 7%, reaching an average of €263! Prices however dropped back in September to values we’ve been more used to seeing throughout 2025, with average scrap car prices to €245.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Ford Mondeo currently ranks fourth on our most frequently scrapped cars chart. Throughout the last three months, it's remained the highest value car in our top five. After an almost 11% increase in value in June, the value maintained in July, and increased in August by just under 3%. Reaching a price of €292 in September.
As with all scrap values, your Mondeo could be worth more than the average scrap price, depending on factors such as age, condition and mileage.
In each month of 2025 so far, the Ford Focus has been the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack. A scrap Ford Focus is currently worth an average of €244.
During the last three months, the most frequently scrapped cars were the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Opel Astra, Ford Mondeo and the Opel Corsa.
