Scrap car prices fluctuated during the second quarter of 2025. The start of this period saw prices maintain with April’s average price at €241, just a Euro less than the previous month. After the stability to start the quarter, May saw prices decrease by 4%, reaching an average of €234. Prices were boosted in June with average scrap car prices rising to €254 – the highest levels seen October 2024!

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Volkswagen Golf currently ranks third on our most frequently scrapped cars chart, this recent period has seen some big changes in its average value. Month on month the value decreased by 1% in April, decreased a further 4% in May, then increased by a whopping 18% in June – reaching a price of €267 - the highest scrap value seen for the VW Golf this year.
As with all scrap values, your VW Golf could be worth more than the average scrap price, depending on factors such as age, condition and mileage.
In each month of 2025 so far, the Ford Focus has been the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack. A scrap Ford Focus is currently worth an average of €242.
During the last three months, the most frequently scrapped cars were the Ford Focus, Opel Astra, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Passat, and the Ford Mondeo. All prices dropped in May in line with the general average. In June, price rises were seen for all the top five models.
