Scrap car prices stay on top! After reporting a huge increase to the average value of scrap cars last month, this month we’ve seen them creep up even further, making the prices paid for scrap cars the highest seen in Ireland in 2021.
The average value of a scrap car in September increased by just 1%, that’s a €2 increase on August’s prices.
As well as prices increasing month on month, they’re also up a massive 83% compared to last year. That’s a great year on year increase, however, not the biggest growth we’ve seen this year, that was in April 2021 when prices were up by a huge 128%!
The value of a scrap car is influenced by many factors, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
At CarTakeBack branches across Ireland in August the most common vehicle scrapped, for the 15th consecutive month, was the Ford Focus! Though prices across the board have increased by 1%, the average scrap price for a Ford Focus actually decreased by 21% in September. That was a value of €159 in September, compared to €193 in August.
With the top spot being firmly held by the Ford Focus, and second place again held by the VW Passat, the lower half of the table is all change. The Corolla, Micra and 206 are replaced by the Fiesta, Polo and A4.
