Scrap car prices hit a high in October! Another boost to prices compared to September makes the prices paid for scrap cars in October the highest seen in Ireland in 2021!
The average value of a scrap car in October increased by a decent 10%, that’s a €19 increase on September’s prices. As well as prices increasing month on month, they’re also up by 66% compared to last year.
The value of a scrap car is influenced by many factors, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
At CarTakeBack branches across Ireland in October, the most frequently scrapped vehicle was, for the 16th consecutive month, the Ford Focus! The average scrap price for a Ford Focus increased by 13% in October, with the average value of a Ford Focus being €183 compared to €159 in September.
With the top spot being firmly held by the Ford Focus, the remaining four spots on the table are all change. The Passat, Fiesta, Polo and A4 are replaced by the Astra, Golf, Mondeo and Corolla.
