Last month we reported a downturn to scrap car prices, and with the arrival of fresh Coronavirus lockdown measures in October we thought we’d be reporting the same, however we’re happy to report that scrap car prices have increased! The average value of a scrap car is up a whopping 20% compared to September and is up 18% compared to this time last year. October’s scrap car prices reached the highest levels seen in 2020!
With the ongoing uncertainty around the impact of Coronavirus, we may again see reductions to prices in the run up to Christmas.
The value of your scrap car depends on the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most common vehicle scrapped in October was, for the third consecutive month, the Ford Focus. The average age of the Focuses scrapped was 16 years. The average scrap price for a Ford Focus was €99 in October, which has increased by 21% compared to September, and 30% compared to August!
October has again seen a change to the top five makes and models of car being scrapped in Ireland.
