The latest month on month decline sees scrap car prices at the lowest level this year. The continued reduction in the global demand for scrap metal and the cost of living crisis, remain contributing factors to the value of a scrap car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Ford Focus was the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack at an average value of €258 – that’s just €2 down on the previous month. The Astra and Fiesta saw the average price maintain compared to May, and the Volkswagen Golf saw the biggest loss, -4%. That being said, the scrap value of each car varies due to multiple factors, so it’s always worth getting a free quote when you’re considering scrapping your car.
