Scrap car prices bounce back! After four consecutive months of reductions to the average scrap car price, July sees prices rise. The 4% increase means an extra €10 in your bank for your scrap car. This increase comes after prices in June were at the lowest level seen this year.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Ford Focus was the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack at an average value of €269 – that’s €11 more than the value in June. The Ford Mondeo saw the largest increase of 7%, the Opel Astra and Volkswagen Passat also saw increases compared to June, only the Volkswagen Golf saw a loss, -7%.
The scrap value of each car varies due to multiple factors, so it’s worthwhile getting a free quote when you’re considering scrapping your car to see if it’s worth more than the average.
