After a slight improvement to the average value of a scrap car in June, July has taken a very small decrease. The average value of a scrap car in July decreased by 1%, that’s just €1 down on June’s prices. Though prices have decreased, they still aren’t the lowest levels we’ve seen this year.
In spite of prices decreasing month on month, they have increased quite considerably year on year. A boost of 86% compared to July 2020 when we were beginning to see prices creep up after the impact of Covid lockdowns. The small decrease this month still means that this year average scrap car prices have always been above €140.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most common vehicle scrapped at CarTakeBack branches across Ireland, for the 13th consecutive month, was the Ford Focus! Though the average scrap car values as a whole have fallen by 1%, the average price for a Ford Focus actually increased by 1%! The average price for a Ford Focus was €138 in July, compared to €138 in June.
With the top spot being firmly held by the Ford Focus, the second is firmly held by the Ford Fiesta for the second month in a row. Positions 3 to 5 are all change.
