by CarTakeBack
After a record high in December last year with scrap car prices topping over €300, January sees them decrease slightly. 2022 scrap car prices aren't low though, they've taken just a 9% drop, which means they're still considerably higher than most of the prices seen in 2021.
January's 9% decrease compared to the average prices in December, takes prices closer to the levels seen in November 2021. Prices are up by a considerable amount, 86%, compared to last year.
January's Average Scrap Car Price €290
The value of a scrap car is influenced by many factors, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
Top cars scrapped in January
At CarTakeBack branches across Ireland in January, the most frequently scrapped car was, for the 19th consecutive month, the Ford Focus! The average scrap price for a Ford Focus decreased by 8% in December. Though the price decreased, the average price for a Ford Focus was still higher than the overall average at €305.
