In 2018 we saw a great upwards trend in the price of scrap cars, particularly in the last quarter of the year with a huge spike to prices between October and November. However, scrap car prices have dropped slightly coming into 2019.

January 2019 saw the value of scrap cars take a slight drop of 4% compared to prices in December. That being said, scrap cars are still an impressive 86% higher than they were a year ago! So now could be a good time to sell your car for scrap.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
