We began 2021 with a slight decrease to the value of scrap cars in January and unfortunately we’ve seen another fall in February, though again the drop was only slight. February saw a drop of just 3% to the average price of scrap cars compared to January. Though we saw a decrease month on month, the difference in price compared to February 2020 is better, up by a considerable 55%
The value of your scrap car depends on the global demand for scrap metal, as well as the make, model, age, weight, condition, location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most common vehicle scrapped at CarTakeBack branches across Ireland was, for the seventh consecutive month, the Ford Focus. The average value of Ford Focuses decreased from January’s high of €192, to €145 in February. Though lower than the prices at the start of 2021, February’s price is still higher than those seen at the end of 2020.
Though the top spot is still being held by the Ford Focus, February has seen a change to the others that make the top five list of cars being scrapped with CarTakeBack.
