The weather has been kind to us in February, although the scrap car values haven't been heating up. The average value of scrap cars in Ireland has dropped slightly, with prices 3% lower than they were in January. The price of scrap cars is still good, with the prices jumping up in November last year, meaning that the value of scrap cars in February 2019 is still a very impressive 76% higher than they were in February 2018.
The value of scrap cars depends on the global scrap metal market, which is currently looking quite strong. However, as the market is constantly fluctuating in line with demand, the prices could fall further. So now is a good time to sell that scrap car!

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is updated monthly using the prices on offer for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. It is intended to give an indication of the movement in the price from one month to another, with the prices being shown as a percentage. Cars come in all shapes and sizes which has an effect on their scrap value, so prices have been adjusted to show what the average car would be worth.
