Another record broken as the average scrap car value with CarTakeBack rises again! As we moved into December there were concerns that uncertainties around Covid could impact the value of scrap cars, as they had done during 2020. However thankfully this wasn’t the case and we ended the year on a high.
December saw the average value of a scrap car tip over €300, making them the best scrap car prices seen throughout the year. Fantastic news if you’re wanting to get some cash after Christmas and have an old car to sell.
December’s 8% increase compared to the average prices in November, is a €24 boost! As well as increasing month on month, prices are also up by 103% compared to last year.
The value of a scrap car is influenced by many factors, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.
About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
At CarTakeBack branches in December, the most frequently scrapped car was, for the 18th consecutive month, the Ford Focus! The average scrap price for a Ford Focus increased by 17% in December. The average price for a Ford Focus was €333 compared to €275 in the previous month.
With the top spot being firmly held by the Ford Focus, the VW Golf remained in 2nd. The other spots on the table are all change, the Yaris jumped to 3rd, and the Micra and Almera are replaced by the Fiesta and 206.
