We're happy to report that scrap car prices have increased for the third consecutive month! December saw us end the year with the average value of a scrap car increase compared to November. Prices were up by 11% compared to November, making our December scrap car prices the highest seen in 2020. The average value of a scrap car was also up a whopping 54% compared to December 2019.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top cars scrapped in December

The most common vehicle scrapped in December was, for the fifth consecutive month, the Ford Focus. There was little change to the average scrap price for a Ford Focus in December, €133, compared to November's €132.

Though the top spot is still being held by the Ford Focus, November has seen a change to the others that make the top five list of cars being scrapped.
