The average price on offer for a scrap car in Ireland fell in April by 6%, making it the largest reduction in the last 12 months. This loss to prices is contributed to by the demand for scrap metal being reduced. Industries such as, electronic, automotive and construction use scrap metal. Changes within these sectors can impact the scrap metal industry and consequently the scrap value of your old car.
Despite the reduction to the average value, your car could be worth more. Various factors contribute to the value of a scrap car, including, the demand for reusable car parts, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even your location.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The Ford Focus was the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack at an average value of €256. All models in the top five saw decreases to the value in March, except for the Opel Astra, which saw a 4% increase, that’s great news for Astra owners ready to scrap.
