The average price paid for scrap cars has increased again in Ireland, edging closer to the high levels seen at the end of 2021.

March saw prices increase by a decent amount, 5% compared to February. Plus prices are up considerably on those in March 2021, an increase of 69% year on year, which equates to prices being €124 higher! Early signs show that prices could maintain into April, it’s a great time to get cash for your scrap car.

The average value of a scrap car is influenced by factors such as, the global demand for scrap metals, any reusable parts, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

For the 21st consecutive month, the most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was the Ford Focus! Despite the overall prices increase in March, the average scrap price for a Ford Focus actually decreased by 8% to €291.
