April and May both saw a drop to the average scrap car price, June however has seen a slight upturn. The average value of a scrap car in June increased by 9%, that’s a €12 boost to May’s prices. Though prices have increased, they still aren’t back to the highest levels seen in May this year.
As well as prices increasing month on month, they have also year on year, quite considerably too. An increase of 97% compared to June last year. So far this year average prices have been above €140. A great improvement compared to this time last year, when the impact of Covid was just beginning to recover slightly.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It’s updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We’ve taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
The most common vehicle scrapped at CarTakeBack branches across Ireland, for the 12th consecutive month, was the Ford Focus! After taking a 24% drop in value in May, the average value of Ford Focuses has increased in June by 26%. The average price for a Ford Focus was €136 in June, compared to €101 in May.
With the top spot being firmly held by the Ford Focus, the rest of the top vehicle scrapped with CarTakeBack are all change since May.
