The average value of a scrap car has decreased by a modest 2% in February. Though we've seen them fall, the prices on offer for scrap cars are still considerably higher than through much of last year.

Despite a drop in the average price compared to January, prices are up compared February 2022 by 11%. That's €32 higher!
The average value of a scrap car is influenced by factors such as, the global demand for scrap metals, any reusable parts, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index
The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.
Top cars scrapped in February
The most frequently scrapped car with CarTakeBack was again the Ford Focus! In February the average scrap price for a Ford Focus was €314. That's down by just €8 compared to the average value in January.
