Scrap car prices are booming again in Ireland! We're happy to report that after a decrease to the average value of a scrap car in July, prices have bounced back in August and they're the best prices seen all year.

The average value of a scrap car in August increased by 20%, that's a €32 increase on July's prices.

Not only have prices increased considerably month on month, they're also up a massive 75% year on year. Back in August 2020, the average value of a scrap car was €105, so prices have risen by €79!

The value of a scrap car is influenced by many factors, such as the global demand for scrap metals, plus the make, model, age, weight, condition, and even location of your car.

About the CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index

The CarTakeBack Scrap Car Price Index is a rolling monthly index covering the last 13 months. It's updated monthly using the prices paid for scrap cars at CarTakeBack recycling centres throughout Ireland. We've taken into account that cars come in all shapes and sizes, which has an effect on their scrap value, the prices show what the average car would be worth. This means that the index gives a great indication of the movement in the value of scrap cars from one month to another.

Top cars scrapped in August

At CarTakeBack branches across Ireland in August the most common vehicle scrapped, for the 14th consecutive month, was the Ford Focus! The average scrap price for a Ford Focus increased by 29%! That was a value of €193 in August, compared to €137 in July.

With the top spot being firmly held by the Ford Focus, there's changes to the rest of the top 5. Just the Volkswagen Passat remains on the top cars scrapped list from July, it moved from fourth to second in August.
